Privacy & Security

Readwise and Reader have AI features powered by OpenAI. Is my data being used to train their AI models?

No. The OpenAI API allows users to opt out of their content being used for training data, which we have done. Nothing that OpenAI receives from Readwise or Reader is allowed to be saved to their servers or used to train their AI models.

Do Readwise or Reader support end-to-end encryption?

No. Readwise and Reader are consumer softwares optimizing for user experience over enterprise compliance. If you're dealing in matters of national security requiring NSA-level encryption, you should definitely not save anything containing your state secrets to Readwise or Reader (or any cloud-based software, for that matter).

That said, you should generally feel comfortable that your private content will be kept private. For example, if you upload a PDF to Reader, no one will ever see that PDF but you.
